FLY TYING TUTORIAL: THE NP BUNNY LEECH

In this video, long time Estancia Laguna Verde guide and fly tying master, Nano Peralta, shows us how to tie the NP BUNNY LEECH, a fantastic pattern.

Materials:
Hook: any trailer hook #2 or #4, in this case Gamakatsu L11S-3H, size #4
Eyes: Bead chain eyes
Thread: UTC 140 black
Wing/back: blank zonker strip
Body: Polar chenille black/dark red medium
Collar: black marabou - uv pearl flashabou
Head: Black angora goat - Tan UV ice dubbing
Total length of fly: 8 centimetres aprox

This is what Nano wrote about this fly:
"Regarding the design of the fly, the idea was to combine colours, flash, lots of movement even when it is just sinking, at the same time, with moderated weight to be able to cast longer distances, that is trying to achieve easy casting so to not tire or force your casting arm.
Talking about colours, it is mainly black because at the depths it fishes normaly it works really good combined with UV flashabou and UV dubbing, which increase its visibility.
It also has a touch of dark red, which combined with black, it is a really good combination.
The zonker strip should not be very dense, rather sparse is best, so it absorves water fast so it sinks right away, but also as you do your first false cast, it releases water fast as well for easier casting, with the added bonus of better movement and action swiming.
The same happens with the head, you want to keep it sparse, which adds the right amount of volume and brightness, that really help entice a strike.
This version is thought for a single hand rod, fishing with intermediate sinking lines as well as fast sinking lines. The idea is that it sinks at a similar rate as your line, as many times the takes happen at that moment. That is why the materials choosen provided maximun movement and action, both when striped as when it is just sinking.
Of course, you can adapt to your needs and add or take away weight according to where you are fishing, if you are fishing single or two hand rods, as well as vary the size and length of the fly accordingly.
This fly was mainly thought to fish at Strobel lake, where i have guided for many years, fishing from 2 to 8 meters deep most times we use it.
It has also been effective for me fishing different rivers and lakes, looking for big browns, and it has also been used for sea trout, showing always great results for me.
Hope you find this pattern useful and hope to see you at Estancia Laguna Verde".
